The Power of the Rockies

(By S.
McConaghie & D. Keith)
Their raw and rugged
faces stare out
In calming serenity
And for the beholder
A sense of security
To see a stream find it's path
Babbling towards the base
Virginal clear water flows never ending
In a stream of white lace
A gift from above
Is this moment in time
Pure and natural beauty
Described as Heaven's Climb
These are the Canadian Rockies
Of countless legends told
A mountain range unmatched
Picturesque, majestic, and bold
These fine old ladies
Draped in velvet green
Stand over us in quiet splendour
Immovable, immense, and serene
Their multi-coloured palette
Is created in every hue
Introducing the viewer
To what Charlie Russell knew
Indian paintbrush and fireweed
With vibrance unbound
Weave carpets of crimson
Through the rocks they surround
The Rockies embrace their children
At their breast
Giving shelter to the grizzles, big horn, and cougar
These grand ol' ladies of the west
They're kind and gentle
To the smallest of small
The whole circle of life exists
On their jagged walls
But history has witnessed the fury
Of their merciless power
Leaving the strongest of men
To weep and cower
And for those unfortunate souls
Who crossed their path
An unmarked grave
Care of the Rockies wrath
With the exception of one
A whole town died
They spared one little girl
That night at Frank Slide
Like wild animals
These ladies aren't to be tamed
Just enjoyed and respected
The Rockies they're named
Stand in wonder at their peaks
And slopes so bold
Remember the power they give is as great
As the power they hold
