Cowboys, Heroes and Horses is a half-hour documentary produced by Espiritu Films and CTV television. This beautifully crafted program gives viewers a peak into the hidden world of Canadian cowboy culture through the eyes of cowboy poet Diamond Doug Keith.
Titled after
one of Doug's more serious poems the show follows Doug from his
Manitoba ranch to Alberta in an effort to introduce some of the
talent and characters that make up cowboy culture in Canada. It
also tries to explain what is cowboy poetry to an uneducated audience
to further the art form to the general public.
The program
is nicely balanced between poems and the original songs of the
West by those who penned them from right across the Western provinces.
Stunning imagery of all that is the West mixed with the wit, humour
and the romantic image of the cowboy makes Cowboys, Heroes and
Horses a must see.
